some of the suggestions in this thread are quite frankly, ridiculous and must have been put forward by people who never saw certain players actually play and have just believed some kind of hype/mythology passed down through the mists of time. To pick up on just one particular example; including Nigel Winterburn in the category of how did he become a premier league player is a joke. Apart from what he achieved as part of the most successful back fours at Arsenal, he was absolutely excellent for us considering his age when he arrived. The only suggestion made so far that truly deserves that title as far as I am concerned is Vinnie Jones. He was and always will be a hod carrying thug who lucked his way into football without demonstrating a single attribute that you would normally associate with the privilege of playing at that level.

Not as bad as Kovak but we can all name appalling players on this thread, it's more about the players that were seen as ok but were useless...
I actually agree with the poster who puts winterburn in that category.

People chose to remember him fondly because of what happened, 1491, but he was a poor football player, who's only asset was that he was a giant.
Weren't as bad as Kovac, though.
